Chiefs investigate anti-gay slur

A Chiefs rugby player could be in trouble after allegedly yelling homophobic slurs at a man in Waikato.

Brendan Barraclough says he was at Okoroire Hot Springs in Tirau on Sunday when a player from the team, who were there following their loss against the Hurricanes, yelled "here come the gays" and other comments at him.

"How they think this is ok in this day in age is beyond me," he said in a post on Facebook.

"These are `famous' sportsmen that we are meant to be able to look up to however today they have proven that's not a privilege certain members of the team deserve! Just revolting."

Chiefs CEO Andrew Flexman on Tuesday told Newshub he had personally apologised to Mr Barraclough.

He said he did not know who the player was, but an investigation would be carried out to find out.

"We need to make some decisions if some form of disciplinary action is appropriate and what is the appropriate action to take," he said.
