Chiefs lose pre-season match against Bulls

Halfback Brad Weber scored the only try for the Chiefs in their 28-7 pre-season loss to the Bulls in Brisbane.

A Chiefs side missing many of their first choice players were out-scored four tries to one by a Bulls side at close to full strength.

The South Africans, who crossed twice in the first 10 minutes, were clearly motivated.

It was their first game since the death this week of former halfback Joost van der Westhuizen, the Springboks great. The players wore black armbands and were visibly emotional before kick-off.

Burger Odendaal opened the scoring via an intercept. The Bulls were then awarded a penalty try when a rolling maul was collapsed soon afterwards.

Weber crossed soon afterwards but a much-changed Chiefs side couldn't stop second-half tries to Dries Swanepoel and Warrick Gelant.

Both teams will contest the Brisbane Global Tens tournament this weekend.
