A convicted fraudster and sex offender has been found after allegedly breaching his bail conditions.

Police appealed for help to locate Darren Jolly, 51, on Boxing Day. He was apprehended later that night on State Highway 1 near Pegasus in Canterbury about 11.35pm.

Jolly was also arrested in 2012 and spent three years on the run after he absconded from extended supervision orders he was subject to following his release from prison.

He was sentenced in New Plymouth District Court in December 2004 to seven years and six months' jail, with a minimum non-parole period of five years, on 33 charges.

They included having sex with a 14-year-old girl, doing an indecent act with a 15-year-old girl, and a variety of dishonesty charges.
