Singer Chris Martin opened up about his post-divorce life in an interview with an Australia radio show on Monday.

Martin famously "consciously uncoupled" with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow in March of 2014 and later officially divorced in April 2015. The Coldplay frontman talked about his state of mind before the couple split with 2DayFM's "Rove & Sam" show.

"A few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused," said Martin on the show, by way of Us Weekly. "Some friends gave me a book called Man's Search for Meaning, and a poem called 'The Guest House' by an Afghanistani poet, teacher, and those two things started me off on this whole journey that's ended up a few years later now where I just feel so happy to be alive."

Martin added, "That may sound a little simple but I suddenly feel very grateful for all these things in my life, I just feel happy to be alive and if it's coming across then that's because it's real."

Paltrow and Martin have two kids, Apple and Moses Martin, together. The celebrity couple married in 2003 and "uncoupled" after 11 years of marriage. The 38-year-old singer apparently dated actress Jennifer Lawrence briefly after his divorce.

Despite their divorce, Paltrow maintains that she and Martin work together to co-parent their kids.

"It's's been hard, and you know, we've gone through really difficult times with it but we've always said these children are our priority," said Paltrow at a July 2015 BlogHer conference.  "What that really means is, 'Even though today, you hate me and you never want to see me again, we're going to brunch, 'cause it's Sunday and that's what we'll do!' You know, like, 'That's what's happening!' The children are our commitment."
