A man used a bike to flee the scene after a heist at a Kiwibank branch in Christchurch, the second time two wheels have been used instead of four after bank robberies in the city in a week.

Police say a man with a firearm entered the branch in Riccarton Road around 12.30pm on Wednesday,

He threatened staff before getting away on a red mountain bike with a sum of cash.

Police are seeking sightings of the man, who is described as middle-aged and Caucasian.

He had a silver helmet and was carrying a black bag and a long, thin firearm.

He wore a white mask with a dark balaclava on top, faded jeans, a black zip-up style polo shirt with a green T-shirt underneath and grey gloves.

Last Thursday, Kiwibank's Bush Inn branch was robbed by a man who also left on a bicycle.
