Christchurch club sorry for airline fracas

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 21/07/2016

A Christchurch football club has publicly apologised after its team held up an early July flight with boorish behaviour.

Cashmere Technical said its team's behaviour on a July 3 Air New Zealand flight, in which team members allegedly used foul language and compelled the airline to call police, was unacceptable and had been addressed by the club board.

One passenger wrote on Facebook that team members acted like "an idiotic bunch of buffoons" and that one man in particular was a "loud mouth arrogant show off."

The club apologised to the passenger directly and later released a statement reminding its staff and supporters to adhere to the club's code of conduct.

"We are aware that the behaviour of some of our men's travelling team caused concern for the flight crew and some passengers on a recent Air New Zealand flight," the club said on Wednesday evening.

"We would like our members to know that the individuals concerned and board (on behalf of the club) have dealt with this matter and have apologised to Air New Zealand and the individuals concerned."

Cashmere Technical play in the Mainland Premier League, an amateur competition located in the upper South Island.
