Two Christchurch properties and two vehicles have become the focus of a police search for a man who has been missing for over a week.

Michael Craig McGrath's disappearance has been described as completely out of character, and Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney says there are serious concerns about his well-being.

Det Insp Sweeney says a number of search warrants were executed on Wednesday and forensic specialists will examine two Halswell properties and two vehicles in the coming days.

Mr McGrath, 49, was last seen at his home in Checketts Ave in Halswell on May 21 and police are seeking any sightings of him in Christchurch.

Police are also seeking any sightings of his blue 1994 Subaru station wagon in Christchurch from May 21 to 23.

They want to hear from anyone that Mr McGrath completed contract building work for over that period.
