Christmas parcels for troops overseas

New Zealand troops serving overseas have received Christmas parcels with things that remind them of home like Marmite.

From Iraq to Antarctica, and many countries in between, 220 Christmas parcels from the RSA were opened by New Zealand Defence Force recipients on Christmas Day, the New Zealand Defence Force says.

The 76-year-old tradition still delights troops.

"My favourite items in the box were the Christmas cards from the RSA, Mt Cook School and About Kidz Oscar, and the Marmite," says Lieutenant Colonel Mike Duncan, an education officer in with the UN in the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea.

"You can't get Marmite here."

A complex delivery effort by NZ Post, DHL, the Royal New Zealand Air Force and allied Air Forces ensured the parcels reached every operationally deployed Kiwi this year.
