Church treasures taken in Wellington

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 29/07/2016

Embroidered vestments more than 100 years old have been taken from a display cabinet in St Peter's Anglican Church in central Wellington.

Police say they're very distinctive items and would be of little value to anyone outside the church but they're significant to the church.

Matched sets of burses, palls, maniples and veils in church "season" colours of red, white, green and purple have been taken.

They're heavily embroidered on silk damask.

St Peter's has stood on the corner of Willis and Ghuznee Streets since 1848.
