Central Districts have won their rain-interrupted one-day cricket match against Northern Districts by two wickets at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

It was the only match in the third round of the domestic one-day competition able to be completed.

Northern Districts looked to be cruising after posting 266-6, Daryl Mitchell top-scoring with 93 not out after Nick Kelly had scored 57.

Central were 68-2 after 17.2 overs when rain halted play, returning to a revised target of 200 runs off 33 overs.

Needing 132 runs from 15.4 overs, Central looked in trouble eight overs later at 114-6.

But 20-year-old right-hander Josh Clarkson's unbeaten 24-ball 48, which included three sixes and three fours, saw them home with five balls to spare.

Both other third-round matches were called off.

Persistent rain meant the game between winless Otago and fourth-placed Canterbury at University Oval was called off at about midday.

Two hours later the match between Wellington and Auckland was called off, depriving spectators at the Basin Reserve of a match between the competition's two unbeaten teams.
