Coldplay will tour New Zealand and Australia at the end of the year.

The British band will bring the A Head Full of Dreams Tour - named after their seventh studio album - to stadiums in Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney this December.

This will be the band's first, global tour making its way this side of the world since 2012's Mylo Xyloto Tour, which included a gig in New Zealand.

Just two years ago, the band visited Sydney to promote the emotionally charged album Ghost Stories. But while they filmed the video for the track A Sky Full Of Stars in Newtown in Sydney's west, they only played a small, promotional show.

"I think that not going on tour with Ghost Stories was one of the best decisions we ever made, because it gave us such pent-up energy in the studio and completely reignited everyone's desire to go around the world and play music. A Head Full Of Dreams was written as a record to be performed live. We can't wait to do that," frontman Chris Martin said.

Coldplay kicked off this tour in Latin America in March and will continue with dates around the world including four sold out nights at London's Wembley Stadium in June before they reach New Zealand and Australia.
