The team of 250 athletes scored a legendary haul of 46 medals at the Gold Coast games - the biggest offshore haul to date.

The team touched down at Auckland Airport at 6.30pm tonight.

Several prominent athletes were not on board the flight - including the gold-medal winning Women's Sevens Rugby team which has jetted off to another tournament.

Dame Valerie Adams, Tom Walsh and double-gold medalist Joelle King also returned home early.

The team will head to a special welcome home function at Novotel once they land.
