ContainerShip raises $2.41M seed round for its cloud automation platform

ContainerShip, a service that aims to make it easier for developers to use Docker containers to develop and deploy their applications, today announced that it has raised a $2.41 million seed round led by Pittsburgh-based Draper Triangle Ventures and Birchmere Ventures.

ContainerShip launched at Disrupt NY 2015.  As the company’s co-founder and CEO Phil Dougherty tells me, the team had only been working on the actual product for about six months before launching. Since then, ContainerShip has been focusing on building out its tools. Dougherty told me the company now has a number of paying customers and this new funding will allow the company to develop its product futher.

ContainerShip currently supports deployments to AWS, Azure, Digital Ocean, Linode and others. Just recently, the company also released support for build that are compatible with Heroku, too.

“The real goal of ContainerShip is to change the way that development teams work together,” Dougherty said. He argues that the current state of containers and web hosting isn’t necessarily making devops any easier. Typically, you still have to have a development team that then hands its work over to an operations team. “From our perspective, that’s kind of a broken system,” he said. “The person writing the code is also the best person to manage it.”
