Police cordons are still in place in Foxton and residents have been warned to stay indoors after gunshots were heard on Saturday night.

Armed police and a dog unit attended the incident the Horowhenua town at about 7.30pm on Saturday after reports of shots being fired but police do not believe anyone was hurt.

Police want residents in Cook Street, Main Street and Johnston Street to stay indoors.
