Coronation Street have finally confirmed Emily Bishop's return with Norris Cole.

Emily was the longest-standing female character in the ITV soap, played by actress Eileen Derbyshire, and first appeared in the cobbles back in 1961.

However actress Eileen decided to take a sabbatical from the show and left in 2016 after 55 years on screen.

Following three years away, fans will be delighted to hear that Emily is finally returning alongside Norris.

Unfortunately, however, fans will also be disappointed to hear that this is only for a brief cameo in October this year.

Speaking about her return today, soap queen Sharon Marshall teased This Morning viewers with what they could expect from her comeback.

She said: "We know she's been off screen for a little while, she took a break [and] she always said she would come back.

"She's coming back and it's going to be just a brief guest appearance but she's filmed it.

"They filmed it at her home and what we're going to see is that she will be on a Facetime call. They won't call it Facetime, it's always called 'Nosetime' or something because they can't use the name.

"But it will be Ken Barlow's 80th birthday and she's coming in on a phone call and Norris is going to be there as well."

The ITV programme then shared a picture of Ken, Adam, Rita, Claudia, Audrey, Mary and Norris crowded around an iPad while holding drinks.

Sharon quipped: "It will be so good to see her back. Please come back for good!"
