Nick Cochrane, who portrayed the character for seven years until a major character cull in 1997, dropped a massive hint that he could be returning to the cobbles after a couple of short appearances.

Andy has been seen at the remarriage of his parents and at his brother's wedding, but it seems he may be a more permanent fixture on the show.

Holly said: "He went to Spain and then he never came back.

"He was never killed off, the door was left open, they go and visit him quite frequently."

Phil asked him what he's been doing since, which he called "boring stuff" along with taking part in Christmas pantomimes.

But as it was recently revealed Charles Lawson will be returning to the show as Jim McDonald, Andy and Steve's father, it may be that he doesn't return alone and brings his son with him.

Nick got the role alongside his school friend Simon Gregson, who plays Steve, back in 1989, and has returned twice since his official departure in 1997.

In upcoming scenes, Liz will become embroiled in Johnny Connor and Eva Price's battle to take care of baby Susie, as she finds out Johnny has kidnapped the child from the Rovers Return.

Meanwhile, Steve has recently made a shock proposal of marriage to his girlfriend, Tracy Barlow, but will their love be one that lasts?

ITV has said nothing is currently on the cards for Andy's return.
