Corrections and Kingitanga work together

The Corrections Department and Kingitanga, the Maori King Movement, have agreed to work together to find ways to help Maori offenders.

The accord was signed on Thursday by King Tuheitia and Corrections chief executive Ray Smith.

They're going to share information and develop initiatives to improve inmates' general wellbeing.

Areas identified are:

* The health and wellbeing of Maori offenders in custody

* The rehabilitation of Maori prisoners and offenders

* The reintegration of Maori prisoners into the community

* Reducing reoffending by Maori.
