Three men are due to appear in court after 200kg of ephedrine, an ingredient used to make methamphetamine, was found inside a shipment of paper from China.

Three men, aged 31, 34 and 32, were arrested in raids on homes around Auckland on Friday following the seizure in late April.

They will appear in Auckland District Court on Saturday.

The ephedrine was found in cavities made inside boxes and within the stacks of paper.

The charges they face include importation of a class B controlled drug (ephedrine) and possession of a class B drug for supply.

It was the largest seizure of ephedrine in New Zealand.
