Cruelty to Auckland cat investigated

An Auckland cat has been found with the tips of its ears cut off.

SPCA Auckland says it's investigating the deliberate act of cruelty to the female black domestic cat.

The injuries are consistent with decisive purposeful amputation with a sharp instrument, and not the result of an accident or medical condition.

"Terrible pain and suffering has been inflicted on an innocent cat and it is important that those responsible for this cruelty are held accountable so it doesn't happen again," says chief executive Andrea Midgen.

SPCA Auckland inspectors are investigating and asking anyone who has information to come forward.

The cat was found by a member of the public on Sartors Ave in Northcross.

She is being cared for in the SPCA Auckland Animal Hospital.

"This cat is very friendly and comfortable around people, and our team believes she could have had a family. We also want to hear from anyone who recognises this cat or can help reunite her with her owner," Ms Midgen says.
