Customs nab man carrying $2m of meth

The man was returning from a month-long trip to South Africa when he was intercepted by Customs on Sunday night, with 2kg of meth in the lining of his trolley bag.

The arrest was made possible through intelligence-sharing with Australian authorities.

Customs spokesman Maurice O'Brien said the department worked closely with international enforcement partners to target meth smugglers.

The man appeared in Manukau District Court on Monday for importing a class A controlled drug, and faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
