The English club won 21-9 over Carter's French outfit Racing 92 in a tryless final of the European Champions Cup.

Farrell landed seven penalties to ensure maiden champions Saracens became the first English club to claim the crown for nine years.

They dominated most facets in slippery conditions, gaining control in the tight exchanges in particular.

Carter was unable to take shots at goal as he was hampered by a calf injury. With his team trailing 12-6, he was replaced early in the second half.

Retired Test great Carter, 34, was seeking to add the European club crown to his multiple titles at Super Rugby and World Cup level.

Former All Blacks winger Joe Rokocoko and former Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna also started for Racing 92 while there were no New Zealanders in the Saracens lineup.
