New Zealand's Marcus Daniell has fallen short in his bid for a doubles final berth at an ATP tournament in Montpellier.

Fourth-seeded Daniell and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner lost their semi-final 6-4 6-4 to the second seeds at the Open Sud de France - Frenchman Fabrice Martin and Canadian Daniel Nestor.

Another leading Kiwi doubles exponent, Artem Sitak, will contest a semi-final at the ATP event in Quito later on Saturday (NZT).

Third-seeded Sitak and American Nicholas Monroe were to face the unseeded Phillip Oswald (Austria) and James Cerretani (United States) at the Ecuador Open.
