New Zealand tennis player Marcus Daniell has fallen painstakingly short of winning a fifth career ATP doubles title.

Daniell was the only non-Brazilian on the court as he and partner Marcelo Demoliner went down 7-6 5-7 10-7 to Andre Sa and Rogerio Dutra Silva in a marathon final of the Brasil Open in Sao Paulo.

The match lasted more than two hours and featured numerous chances for both combinations to capture each of the first two sets.

The tiebreaker was a topsy-turvy affair before swinging away from fourth seeds Daniell and Demoliner, who are yet to win a title together.
