The world No.53 doubles player and Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner on Tuesday defeated Guillermo Duran and Jose Sousa 6-4 6-4.

In both sets, the pair broke serve at 3-3 and went on to grind out a result with some impressive forecourt play, twice holding serve for 6-4 victories.

Daniell and Demoliner won more than 80 per cent of all first-serve points, while saving all five of Duran and Sousa's break-point chances.

The Wairarapa-born 27-year-old and Demoliner, also 27, will likely play top seeds Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi in the second round.
