Danny Boyle Dishes On The Upcoming 'Trainspotting' Sequel

The Huffington Post The Huffington Post 8/10/2015 Ryan Buxton

When director Danny Boyle dropped by HuffPost Live on Wednesday to chat about his new film, "Steve Jobs," he also offered an exciting update on the upcoming sequel to "Trainspotting."

"We're going to do a sequel, and we've got a script by John Hodge, which is very good, actually, and we wouldn't have gotten the four actors back if it hadn't been, because they're all very nervous about disappointing people," Boyle said.

Boyle told host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani the cast and crew feel a "responsibility" to honor the first film and its legacy among fans nearly 20 years after its release. But the director is confident in the material for the follow-up, and he's set to begin shooting in May and June of next year.

"It feels like we're going back to it with a kind of understanding of what we're doing, and it's not some cheap cash-in that you could have done after it was initially a success," Boyle said. "It feels like it's going to be about something, which is -- I'm afraid it doesn't sound that sexy -- it's the passing of time, really, and what it does to friendship."
