Kiwi No.1 golfer Danny Lee was flawless in his second round as he charged into a share of third at the PGA event in California.

Lee carded four birdies on both the front and back nine in his eight-under 64 at the La Quinta Country Club course.

It left him level with Dominic Bozzelli on 13-under while another American, Hudson Swafford, leads by a shot.

It represents a bright to the year for Lee, who struggled for his best form at the tail end of 2016, slipping to 70th in the world rankings.

Two other New Zealanders are contesting the tournament, which is played on three courses.

Tim Wilkinson and Steve Alker both share 43rd on five-under. Wilkinson shot a 68 at La Quinta while Alker dipped following a two-under 70 at the Stadium Course.
