New Zealand's Davis Cup clash against Pakistan next month is likely to be held in at Wilding Park in Christchurch.

While the venue is still subject to International Tennis Federation approval, the New Zealand team to take on Pakistan in the Asia-Oceania group 1 second round play-off from September 16-18 has been confirmed.

Finn Tearney (ranked 381), Rubin Statham (444), Michael Venus (ranked 41st in doubles) and Marcus Daniell (58 in doubles) will face a Pakistan line-up that is likely to include doubles experts Aisam Quershi and Aqeel Khan.

New Zealand Davis Cup captain Alistair Hunt says the team is the strongest available.

"The team has been selected again with an eye on having three singles players in Finn, Rubin and also Mike, who is obviously highly ranked as a top doubles player but has a big impact in singles if we need him too," said Hunt.

"Marcus takes the doubles spot ahead of Artem Sitak as he currently has a higher ranking.

"The key thing for us against Pakistan is to win and stay in what is a very tough Asia-Oceania group 1."

Originally the tie was scheduled to be played in Pakistan but the ITF rejected the Islamabad location and then Pakistan opted not to host the play-off on neutral ground - allowing New Zealand to step in as hosts.

New Zealand lead Pakistan 3-1 in head-to-head clashes. The last time the two sides met New Zealand won 4-1 in Myanmar in 2013.
