New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme will play for Birmingham Bears in this year's English county cricket Twenty20 competition.

The 30-year-old, who has represented the Black Caps in all three formats, will be available for the full campaign, joining compatriot Jeetan Patel at Edgbaston.

Big-hitting De Grandhomme boasts a remarkable strike-rate of 171.04 with bat in hand, claimed to be the highest in the professional game, but has limited experience on the global T20 circuit.

Ashley Giles, the club's sporting director, said de Grandhomme was an ideal addition to the team, adding batting firepower to the middle order and depth to the bowling attack.

"His batting strike-rate is unparalleled in the professional game. He has been in the best form of his career this winter and his power and ability to clear the boundary makes him one of the most exciting batsmen in the game."

De Grandhomme, who will play the entire T20 Blast campaign, will join the Birmingham squad in July.
