Car used for attempted abductions © NZ Police Car used for attempted abductions Police have released a description of the car used in an attempted abduction of school children in Whangarei on November 1.

Last week a man attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old boy on McClintock St, Whangarei.

The boy was walking home with his school friends around 3pm when the man grabbed the boy's backpack and tried to force him into the open car boot.

The boy managed to get away with the help of his friends and they ran away from the man and hid in the bushes.

The man, described as being of European decent, with black/brown curly shoulder length hair, chased the boys in his car, attempting to block their escape by driving his car onto the footpath.

The boy said he was wearing black jeans, a black hoodie, and had tattoos on his arms.

DESCRIPTION OF THE CAR:

* Older model four-door sedan, silver coloured

* Scratches and minor dents along the driver's side, and rear bumper

* Noisy sounding, as if were about to break down

* Rust along the bottom

* Tiny white stripes down the side

* A cracked rear window
