A thumb injury will rule White Ferns allrounder Sophie Devine out of the coming home and away women's cricket series against Australia.

The big-hitting Devine suffered the injury while playing for Adelaide Strikers in the women's Big Bash League.

She did not require surgery and it had been hoped she would play against the world champions but she will now have her hand in a splint for four to six weeks to allow the joint to recover.

Allrounder Anna Peterson will replace Devine for the T20 matches in Australia next month, while Samantha Curtis takes her place in the one-dayers at home.

The White Ferns play three T20 international against Australia starting under lights at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on February 17 then cross the Tasman for three one-dayers starting in Auckland on February 26.
