An explosion has reportedly hit a McDonald’s restaurant in the French town of Grenoble.

Police closed roads surrounding the fast food chain as they investigate the cause of the blast, French media report.

Flames were allegedly seen billowing from the restaurant’s toilet and customers were quickly evacuated just before midday on Thursday.

Local media reports said all diners managed to escape unharmed, while the toilets were completely destroyed.

Dramatic pictures of the scene show emergency services surrounding the chain in l’Aigle.

Around 30 people were said to be in the building before the alarm was raised.

French authorities have been unable to confirm the reported explosion, but say a large fire cracker may have caused the blaze.

The city’s other McDonald’s restaurants were inspected by police and officers from Lyon were flown in to investigate by helicopter.
