Dixon down the field at Alabama

NZN 24/04/2016

An early tangle cost Scott Dixon dear as the defending IndyCar series champion finished down the field at the Grand Prix of Alabama to lose ground on series leader Simon Pagenaud.

Dixon, who qualified fourth, was turned around on the third lap after a tap from Sebastien Bourdais at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham.

That sent him down to 20th, and the Kiwi set a new race lap record to battle his way back to 10th at the finish.

Pole-sitter Pagenaud won the race - his second successive victory - to extended his lead over Dixon to 48 points in the points standings.
