Scott Dixon has qualified second-fastest for the IndyCar season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, finishing fractionally behind Australian Will Power.

Power grabbed pole position for Team Penske after clicking off a 1min 01.0640sec lap on the 14-turn, 2.9km temporary street course.

Dixon's Chip Ganassi No. 9 GE LED Lighting Honda clocked 1:01.2219, with Canadian James Hinchcliffe third fastest on 01:01.3039.

Four-times IndyCar champion Dixon had a quiet season last year, recording just two wins to finish sixth overall.
