Dixon fourth fastest in Alabama qualifying

NZN 24/04/2016

Defending IndyCar series champion Scott Dixon has qualified fourth fastest at the Grand Prix of Alabama.

Penske driver Simon Pagenaud edged Australian teammate Will Power in Fast 6 qualifying with a lap of 1:06.7262 for Monday's race (NZT).

Power, a two-time winner on the 17-turn, 3.7km road course at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, had the second-fastest lap at 01:06.9421.

Defending champion Josef Newgarden will start on the second row alongside Dixon, who was fourth fastest in qualifying for his Chip Ganassi team with 01:07.2083.

Dixon last week finished second behind Pagenaud at the Long Beach Grand Prix, just 0.3 seconds behind the Frenchman after 80 laps and 253km.

Pagenaud's victory meant he moved 14 points clear of Dixon at the top of the standings after three races.
