Dixon roars into IndyCar life

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/06/2016

After an indifferent effort in the first two practice sessions at the Kohler Grand Prix, Kiwi IndyCar driver Scott Dixon has roared into life in the third.

Dixon knew he had some ground to make up at Road America in Wisconsin after what he described as an average first day, which left him 10th.

Graham Rahal had set the fastest time around the 4.014-mile circuit of one minute 43.0224 seconds, with Dixon's 1min 43.8423sec well off the pace.

But the New Zealander looked sharp in the third practice session, recording the second fastest overall time of 01:42.6693.

Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Tony Kanaan topped the standings with 1:42.6580.

Series defending champion Dixon is looking to make ground on current IndyCar series leader Simon Pagenaud, who holds a commanding 80-point lead over second-placed Dixon after eight of the competition's 16 rounds.
