DOC launches pesticide tracker

Hunters can now figure out if they're about to head into pesticide-covered ground, thanks to a new website from the Department of Conservation.

The department has this week replaced its old pesticide tracking system - which was made up of reports published once every four months - with a new interactive website.

The system features a colour-coated, interactive map that provides up-to-date information about where pesticide has been dropped on department-managed land, and what sites are about to be hit soon.

DOC technical advisor Tom Belton said the regularly updated system would mean commercial hunters - who need to provide pesticide summaries when selling wild game - could more easily show areas were acceptable for hunting.

"[It also provides] more up to date information to recreational hunters and other users of public conservation land," he said.

The map can be accessed from the department's website.
