Dog control laws set to get more teeth

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 12/07/2016

Dog control laws are under review and the government wants public input.

Associate Local Government Minister Louise Upston says she'll be considering further measures to reduce harm but responsible dog owners have nothing to fear.

She's talked to councils, dog control officers and people with first-hand experience of dog attacks.

"While I realise we can't prevent dog attacks completely, I am committed to ensuring that our laws go as far as they can in reducing risk and harm," she said on Tuesday.

Now she wants feedback from the public and she's asking people to fill out online forms from August 1-12.
