$25m for Napier port road improvements

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 26/07/2016

The government will cough up $25 million to improve road access to Napier's port.

As part of the plan, improvements will be made to intersections in the city, as well as the Napier-Hastings expressway.

Transport Minister Simon Bridges says last year the Napier port handled the equivalent of more than 250,000 containers - up more than 16 per cent compared with 2014.

"Improving the road access will enable more efficient and safe movement of freight to and from the port and support future growth," he said.

The announcement of the port access package coincides with the unveiling of the government's Hawke's Bay Economic Development Strategy.
