GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump triumphed in the Illinois primary on Tuesday.

Trump, who is well on his way to being named the GOP’s presidential nominee, had  15 states and 469 delegates to his name going into Tuesday’s primaries. The billionaire real estate mogul was leading his chief rival, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), by 11 percent in the state’s polls.

Trump has focused on "bringing jobs back to America" during his stump speeches in Illinois, a state people are rapidly moving away from in search of better economic opportunities elsewhere.

"Your taxes are through the roof, your companies are leaving you. You have nothing going," said Trump to an embracing crowd in Bloomington, Illinois, on Sunday.

Trump hasn’t received the warmest welcomes in Illinois. A scheduled rally at the University of Illinois at Chicago was canceled on March 11. After the cancellation was announced, Trump supporters clashed with anti-Trump protesters . Five people were arrested and four people were injured, including two officers.

How Illinois hands out its 69 delegates is tricky . It’s not a winner-take-all state like Florida and Ohio, nor is it proportional like North Carolina. Instead, 15 delegates are awarded to the candidate who gets the most votes, and the remaining 54 delegates are awarded by voters on the congressional district level.

“Technically, Illinois holds a 'loophole' primary in which district-level delegates will be elected directly on the ballot,” according to FiveThirtyEight. “But unlike in the loophole primary in Pennsylvania, delegates’ presidential preferences are stated on the ballot, making it highly likely that the preferred presidential candidate will win all three delegates at stake in a given congressional district.”

In order to carry out this process, Illinois voters will hit the ballot box twice.

Editor's note: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims -- 1.6 billion members of an entire religion -- from entering the U.S.
