English Premier League champions Leicester City have received another boost with midfielder Danny Drinkwater signing a five-year contract extension.

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater signed a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions on Thursday.

The England international was a key part of the Foxes' surprise title run last season and is now under contract until 2021.

"I've loved playing for this club, it's been perfect for me and my career and I want to be here for a long time to come," Drinkwater said on Leicester's website.

"We've been through so much together and I'm sure there's a lot more to come."

Drinkwater, 26, has made 177 appearances since joining Leicester from Manchester United in 2012.

He played 35 of the Foxes' 38 league matches last season and earned his first England call-up but wasn't part of the squad for Euro 2016.

Drinkwater joins teammates Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel, Wes Morgan and Andy King, along with manager Claudio Ranieri, in penning new deals this summer.

"Ever since I joined Leicester City, Danny has been one of our most consistent players," Ranieri said.

"He's an important player for us and a very popular player in the dressing room.

"I want him to stay with us for a very long time."
