Drugs bust in Manawatu region

Four arrests since Thursday are part of a investigation in Manawatu that's seized drugs, flash cars, cash and a assault rifle, police say.

A 52-year-old Palmerston North man was arrested in a car just south of Paekakariki on Thursday, and after raids of properties and storage facilities in Palmerston North, Feilding and Ashhurst a 36-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, both of Palmerston North, faced drug-related charges.

A 22-year-old Palmerston North woman was also arrested for a breach of bail.

Police found 80g of methamphetamine, 10kg of cannabis plant head, 175g of hashish, $278,000 in cash and an AK-47 assault rifle.

Five motor vehicles were seized, including European cars.

The 52-year-old man and 26-year-old woman have appeared in court and the remaining accused will appear in court in the future.

It was part of Operation Zippo, which has led to the arrest of nine people earlier along with the seizure of drugs and property.
