Drugs purchased in China from Oamaru

A young man living in Oamaru who allegedly bought methamphetamine on the internet from China is facing charges.

Police say 200g of methamphetamine, with a street value of $200,000, posted to an Oamaru address was stopped by New Zealand Customs this week and it was linked to a previous seizure of 102g.

As a result 22-year-old man is facing charges of importing a class A drug and possession of a class A drug for supply.

Separately, 56g of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, with a street value of about $20,000, was discovered before it reached Dunedin.

These drugs were also purchased in China via the internet, and 21-year-old man is facing several charges as a result.
