The brother of a New Zealand-born man already accused of murdering a Gold Coast father has faced court charged with the same crime.

Nelson Patea, 22, made a brief appearance at Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with the murder of Greg Dufty in July last year.

Patea's brother, Lionel, who has also been committed to stand trial over the murder of his former partner Tara Brown, was charged over his alleged involvement in the crime last year.

Patea and another man, Clinton Stockman, were both extradited from interstate earlier this week after becoming the fourth and fifth men, respectively, charged over Mr Dufty's murder.

It's alleged the group of men killed the father of two over a drug debt sometime after Mr Dufty was last seen in the Gold Coast suburb of Ashmore.

Patea, who was extradited from NSW, has been remanded in custody and his matter adjourned until June 30.

Stockman, 28, had previously been charged with accessory after the fact but it's believed his charges have been upgraded due to new testimony from one of the other co-accused.

Stockman didn't appear in court on Thursday and his matter has been adjourned until Friday to allow his lawyers to speak to him further.

Two other New Zealanders - Liam Bliss and Lionel Patea's cousin Aaron Crawford - have also been charged with murdering Mr Dufty.

Police have never discovered the 37-year-old's body, which they fear was burnt over a period of time at a property near Casino in northern NSW.
