© Wellington city council A painting on plywood of former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark dumped at a Wellington tip is attracting interest in an online auction.

The dump owner Wellington City Council has put the work, which is on two 2.4m by 1.2m plywood sheets, up for sale on TradeMe.

Proceeds of the auction will go to Women's Refuge, which is Ms Clark's preference.

So far there have been 82 bids and the price has reached $666.03. The auction closes on April 16 at 8.30pm.

The work, believed to be by mural artist Chris Finlayson, is described as "weathered, dusty and chipped around the edges".

It was recovered from the transfer station.
