New Zealand's Courtney Duncan has slipped from first to third at the midway point of the women's motocross world championship series after a bruising weekend in France.

Duncan didn't finish the first of two races in Ernee, pulling out after the second of two crashes. Earlier, she fell heavily after being clipped by a rival in mid-air following a jump.

She recovered to win the second race but it wasn't enough to retain her series lead.

Fellow-Yamaha rider Kiara Fontanesi of Italy leads from French defending champion Livia Lancelot (Kawasaki) at the top of a tight leaderboard.

Otago rider Duncan, 21, will remain in Europe to prepare for the fourth round out of six in the Czech Republic on July 22-23.
