Police car © SNPA Police car Police are keeping an open mind as to whether two sexual attacks that happened on the same night in Dunedin are connected.

They say the three female victims are traumatised by what happened and are receiving support.

Investigations are continuing into the incidents on Friday, the first at a Dundas St house between 8pm and 8.30pm.

Police say two 19-year-old women were in the same room when a man walked in and sexually assaulted them both.

The man, who was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, is described as being in his 20s, with short dark hair and dark skin.

A large number of people celebrating St Patrick's Day had gathered at a nearby house known as "The Hospital".

Detective Senior Sergeant Kallum Croudis says the offender may have been in this area around the time of the attack and police want to hear from anyone who may be able to help identify him.

The second incident happened on Leith Way about 9.15pm to 9.30pm.

A woman was walking north towards University College student accommodation, when she was pushed over and sexually assaulted by a Caucasian man in his early 20s.

He is described as being of medium build, 1.80m tall, with long dark curly hair that was tied back.

"We are keeping an open mind in respect of whether these two attacks are connected," Det Sen Sgt Croudis said.

Police have a 10-strong team investigating the incidents.
