A judge has warned a Rotorua man who's elected trial by jury on a charge of robbing a woman of $300 in front of her children that the matter won't be dealt with until next year.

George Raymond Harris, 31, pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge, which is alleged to have occurred at an ATM in the city's mall when he appeared before Judge Greg Hollister-Jones in the Rotorua District Court on Monday.

However, his lawyer, Laura Owen, confirmed Harris was maintaining his earlier guilty pleas to charges of abandoning a child under six and unlawfully talking the car that the two-year-old was in at Rotorua on April 24 -six days after the alleged ATM offence.

Harris also pleaded guilty to the theft of a handbag from a Pak 'n Save car park and shoplifting tobacco.

He is to be sentenced on the charges he's admitted on July 20 and is to stay in custody at least until then.
