Economic management won't change: Joyce

He gave the assurance on Tuesday, saying the government had a proven track record.

"We are making good economic progress, we're achieving steady growth, keeping debt well under control and delivering fiscal surpluses," he said.

"The government's fiscal priorities remain unchanged, we'll continue to keep a tight rein on spending to drive growing surpluses and reduce net debt to around 20 per cent of GDP."

Mr English will announce his cabinet line-up on Sunday and ministers will be sworn in on Tuesday.

So far Mr Joyce's appointment as finance minister is the only one Mr English has revealed.
