A new super hero has joined the fight to help kids with cancer and he comes in the form of English singer Ed Sheeran's alter ego Super Ginge.

While known for penning hit songs and lyrics, the pop-star has now turned his hand to drawing his ideal superhero in aid of a Kiwi charity.

The drawing, which looks a lot like the red-haired singer dressed in a cape, is being sold on auction website Trade Me with the funds raised to go to the Child Cancer Foundation.

"Every time I have visited children with cancer in hospitals, it has always struck me how brave the people that look after them are, as well as the actual kids themselves," Sheeran says in a video showing him creating the drawing.

"I think it is important to keep supporting charities like that."

Bidding for the picture had risen above $1000 by Thursday morning.
