Eels deny Kieran Foran has quit the NRL

NZN 7/07/2016 By James MacSmith

Parramatta have moved to quash reports Kieran Foran has quit the NRL club.

Reports emerged on Friday morning Foran had walked out on his $4.8 million contract with the Eels and had advised coach Brad Arthur of his intention to have an indefinite break from rugby league.

Foran has been battling injury and personal issues.

However the Eels moved quickly to quell speculation he had left the club.

"The Parramatta Eels have not received a request from Kieran Foran's management regarding a release from his contract," the club said in a statement.

"Kieran's welfare is the club's primary concern and the Eels will continue to offer him all the resources available to aid in his recovery.

"The club will be making no further comment on the matter."

Foran has been ruled out of the rest of the NRL season due to a shoulder injury suffered in round 11.

But he has been remiss in attending rehabilitation and it is a situation that resulted in him being handed a breach notice and being stripped of the Eels captaincy.

The Manly premiership winner has had a troubled year in which he was treated for depression in a Brisbane clinic in late April following an overdose of prescription medicine.

He has also been involved in a battle with the Sea Eagles over $150,000 worth of third-party agreements while playing only nine games for Parramatta.

The drama continues a year from hell for Parramatta, labelled their "worst ever" by club great Peter Sterling.

The Eels will likely be finally stripped of 12 competition points by the NRL next week when the game's governing body hands down its final decision on its investigation into the club's salary cap breaches.

They are also set to post a $10 million loss for the 2016 season due to the ongoing troubles.

Star winger Semi Radradra is facing domestic violence charges amid speculation that continues to link him to a move to French rugby.

If Foran does leave the Eels, it could pave the way for Jarryd Hayne to return after his stint in the NFL and his endeavours to play rugby union sevens at the Rio Olympics.
